System
Monitoring - The Next Big Thing?
By
Gary Kayye, CTS
I have often written that good systems integrators and design/build
forms have four, distinct profit centers: design/engineering, sales,
installation and service. This isn't a revelation, as profitable dealers
have known this for years. And, many smaller, growing dealers are realizing
this. But, could a fifth be on the horizon?
Installing
the Amish Experience
By Chuck
Gloman
The Amish are an almost iconic culture that stands for spiritual purity
and simplicity of lifestyle. Though they do not believe in using modern
technology such as electricity, telephones, gas-powered vehicles or anything
that might capture their image, be it video or film, they do attract a good
amount of tourism to Pennsylvania every year. In an effort to enlighten
the many visitors about the unique place the Amish hold in American history
and culture, Brad Igou developed “The Amish Experience,” in Bird-in-Hand,
Pennsylvania, to tell their story to people who take high-tech media for
granted.

Sculpting Sound for Stations on The
Lyon Tramway
By Alex Artaud
Since 1974, Bill Fontana has been creating works of sound art throughout
the world including transporting the sounds of Niagara Falls to the outside
wall of the Whitney Museum in New York, creating an “acoustic map” of
the city of Venice and recently completing a project commissioned by the
city of Lyon, France. In the summer of 1999, Fontana was invited by a
French government organization that oversees public art to submit a design
for a sound art installation for 18 stations along Line 1 of the Lyon
Tramway.
Why
Use Optical (Fresnel) Rearpro Screens?
By
Greg Jeffreys
There are two basic reasons for using Fresnel elements in screens. The first
is the evenness of image brightness – avoiding the infamous ‘hot-spot’.
The second – and secondary – reason is image brightness.
