Adobe Photoshop CS
Image editing and graphics creation software

I've been a user of Adobe Photoshop since its first release, and this is my fourth (or is it fifth?) review of a major update to this software. At this point what could I possibly have to say about yet another version? First off, this is not just another version. Over the years I've seen Photoshop evolved, devolved and recreated to what it has now become, and I have to say I'm impressed. So what, exactly, has it become? With vastly expanded 16-bit color capabilities, new effects, new image manipulation tools and enormous new workflow capabilities--plus a few extra goodies thrown in for good measure--it is, in short, the most powerful version of the most powerful image editing tool on the market to date.
Mighty Mouse? Nope.
Avoid it like the plague

After raving about IOGear’s Mini Mouse in a recent Coolness Roundup, I couldn’t wait to try the USB Wireless Mini Mouse, ($49.95 list), IOGear’s new cordless version of this exceptional product. It has the same ergonomic shape as its wired sibling, comes with a stylish carrying case, and it’s rechargeable. But looks aren’t everything. If you’ve decided that you simply must have this little trinket for your notebook-based road gigs, think again. In a word, it’s unusable.
Digidesign GM Dave Lebolt
On pro audio trends and the Pro Tools product family

With his background as a musician and producer, Dave Lebolt clearly brings a user's perspective to his job running Digidesign, developer of the pro audio industry’s dominant DAW system. He's been a hot session keyboard player whose career took him on tour with David Bowie and other major artists. After that, he was a partner in a New York music production house, where he first encountered Digidesign’s Sound Tools editing software, which later evolved into Pro Tools. It was his involvement during that time as a beta tester for Sound Tools that led him to join Digidesign.
All I want for Christmas is.....
A nice, not-so-subtle hint of what you'd like in your stocking this year

Here's a list of my most wished for tools, aids, and geegaws to make my editing world a little better, easier, or more fun...I gave one to my spouse, perhaps you'll just want to print this off and give it to them as a one-stop wish list. If you are as hard to buy for as I am, your family and friends will appreciate it! Even if they don't appreciate it, it's a nice, not-so-subtle hint of what you'd like in your stocking this year.
DFreqTIP - Avoiding Clicks with Crossfading

Someone recently asked me why every time they tried splicing two pieces of audio together they kept getting clicks in their audio. They also wanted to know how to eliminate the problem. Well, the reason this happens is because most of the time the two different audio waveforms don't line up with one another at the splice point. Waveforms should be spliced at a point where they both line up with the zero-axis (a point at which no sound is occurring).
