Hey, All Those Wireless Naysayers, Say Yea!
Networked projectors are hot, get ready to cut the cord

Everyone knows that I have been a proponent of the integration and convergence of the IT and AV worlds. There's no question that networked systems are on the horizon for everyone, not just the university community who has quickly embraced it so far. In fact, the simple network monitoring features such as managing projector lamp hours, theft prevention and even controlling AV gear across a network, have caught on so rapidly that just about every projector manufacturer has jumped on the network bandwagon.

Photoshop Tip: Automating the Marquee
Recording selection transformations as Actions in PS 7

At some point you're going to run into a situation that requires you to create effects requiring multiple selections and apply these to multiple images. Maybe you want to break up a bunch of images into pieces for use in a collage. Maybe you want to create border effects on a range of images automatically. Maybe you want to create selection-based actions for generating title-safety guides. Whatever the reason, it's a horrifying prospect for the sheer volume of repetitive work. But the process can be automated in Adobe Photoshop using Actions.
Editing HD on Premiere
CineForm Aspect HD makes it happen, even on a notebook

Now you can actually edit HD footage on a notebook. CineForm is shipping editing software, Aspect HD, that runs underneath an ordinary copy of Adobe Premiere 6.5. Using shots from the new HDV camcorder from JVC, I was able to capture compressed HD clips from a DVHS machine onto a notebook from 1Beyond, edit it in real time, and then place the edited sequence back onto HD tape. Even though the workflow was slightly awkward, the experience was thrilling and gave me a sneak peek at what's to come in the world of real time HD editing… for the rest of us.
