PlasmaSync 42XM2, 50XM3 & 61XM2 NEC recently announced their new line of high definition Plasma displays – the XM series consisting of the 42-inch PlasmaSync 42XM2, the 50-inch PlasmaSync 50XM3, and the 61-inch PlasmaSync 61XM2. I was fortunate enough to be invited to NEC headquarters in Itasca, IL – a suburb of Chicago – for 2 days to witness and test the newest lineup of NEC’s plasmas a few days before their release. I spent time not only in their plasma lab full of these glorious new PDPs, I also had meetings with their plasma product management team and with the engineers who were responsible for the design and service of the new XM Series plasma displays.
High end home theater projector, price drops make it a good value When the InFocus ScreenPlay 7200 projector was first introduced, its list price was a buck short of $10,000. To me, it seemed a bit overpriced for the features it included. But now that you can get the ScreenPlay 7200 for as low as $6800 on the street, it's looking a lot better. Let's take a close-up look at this home theater HDTV projector, and see if it can deliver on its promise of high-end HDTV nirvana.
![]() Already three years later and still barely any ProAV projectors with a native 16:9 aspect ratio and resolution ProAV expert Gary Kayye wants projector makers to shed some serious light on the subject of a 16:9 projector with lots of brightness for pro use. Oh, sure, there are plenty of them in the HomeAV market, but they are all 800, 1000, 1100 and 1200 ANSI lumens -- not nearly bright enough for most ProAV installs.
![]() An exploration of the new functionality, plus a mini-tutorial on dealing with noise In our last foray into Adobe Photoshop, we discussed alternate tactics for flushing out the detail in the shadowy areas of your photographs. But now that Photoshop CS is out, there's a whole new strategy available for manipulating the darker regions of digital imagery. And so, in the first in our series of explorations of the new features in the Adobe Creative Suite, we venture into the realm of new image adjustment tools, starting with the powerful Shadow/Highlight function.
A sequel to "Reconstruction & Repair of Heavily Damaged Photos" A few months ago I wrote an article on the repair of heavily damaged photos. From the responses I got to that article, it has come to my attention that there are some aspects I did not cover, and have thus received requests for further explanation. Recently I received an email from Lonny asking for advise on how to repair an old photo of his "little sister". With his permission, I will use this photo to demonstrate some approaches that can be taken when dealing with discolored, stained and heavily spotted photos. As she clearly means so much to him, we will do our best to bring back her smile. |
