Interview with Ian McMurray from Texas Instruments Texas Instruments recently announced shipment of its 2 millionth DLP system. Denise Harrison had a chat with TI's Ian McMurray about what appears to be dramatic growth in DLP sales.

Is that a disk recorder in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me? The holy grail of tapeless DV is here with Laird's Capdiv DV disk recorder ($1295). Plug it into your DV camcorder and it acts just like a little VTR, recording everything your DV tape does, and arranging it on its 40GB disk in separate clips. Then when you get back to your edit bay, it can act like either a VTR or a hard disk, able to store three hours of DV footage. It's a great system, but it's not flawless. Let's take a look.

Industry News: New Features Improve Interactive Display and Increase Readability PolyVision released its Webster 3.2 software upgrade today. The new release features significant enhancements that offer improved interactive display, increased readability, more collaboration capabilities, new highlighting functions, and improved performance. The software upgrade works with the entire Webster suite of products including interactive whiteboards, plasma displays, and rear projection units. Unit used Texas Instruments' 2K x 1K resolution 3-chip DLP Cinema Digital Micromirror Device Digital Projection International (DPI), a manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, announced it demonstrated the world's first digital cinema projector utilizing Texas Instruments' 2K x 1K resolution 3-chip DLP Cinema Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) earlier this month in Tokyo, Japan. DPI's projection system, the Digital Projection Cinema-branded cS25, is the first digital cinema projector to incorporate the new higher-resolution DMDs for use in commercial cinemas. Gateway's direct model again makes the customer the winner with the company's first line of Gateway-branded digital cameras - priced up to 40 percent less than other 4- and 5-megapixel cameras. FOCUS Enhancements Inc. announced today that its latest portable DV disk recorder - the FireStore FS-3, is now available through its worldwide dealer and distribution network. $400 model offers 3.2-megapixel resolution Fujifilm has introduced a new model in its FinePix line of digital still cameras. The new S3000 is an SLR-style camera offering a 3.2-megapixel resolution. It's expected to be avilable in October for $399.99. CompactFlash, SD cards get read/write performance boost SanDisk has announced two new lines of flash media, the Ultra II COmpactFlash and Ultra II SD. Both cards, according to SanDisk, see a dramatic increase in read/write performance. The CompactFlash versions are available now; the SD models will roll out in October and November. 50 high-resolution textures available as free downloads NewTek today released a new texture collection, the fourth installment in the company's series of free textures. It's available now as a free download for registered members of NewTek's forums. Maxtor Corporation today announced that the next evolution of its external storage hard drives branded Maxtor OneTouch are now available. Provides High Performance With High Altitude Functionality Runco International, a provider of video technology for high-end home theater, introduced the CW-42i widescreen flat panel display monitor. The new model is designed to operate at altitudes up to 9,000 feet above sea level -- making it an ideal choice for installations in high-altitude locales. Adobe Systems Incorporated announced the availability of the new Adobe Video Collection -- Standard and Professional editions -- which are comprised of new versions of the company's award-winning video products: Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects 6.0, Adobe Audition, and Adobe Encore DVD. |
