![]() Helpful hints to start your digi-vid year right It's that time of year when many you are heading back to school, saying goodbye to the laid-back rhythms of summer and returning to academic pursuits. It reminds me of the time when I first headed off to college, and with my nose pressed against the glass of the airplane window (yes, they did have aircraft back then -- circa 1975), I wondered if this pursuit was even worth it. I wondered what would become of me. At the time, I wished there was some way I could receive a message from myself decades in my future, packed with helpful hints that would steer me in the right direction. What would I need to do to prepare myself to be a better video editor, and a better video production person in general? Since there is indeed no way to receive such a letter from the future, dear reader, the next best thing is for me to offer a few tips for you budding digital video editors now, noses pressed up against airplane (or bus, car or train) windows, wondering what will become of you. So if you're venturing forth into the world of digital content creation, here are a few helpful hints. |

Industry News: B10S "Value Series" Projector Offers Variable Lens Shift and Low Power Mode Sharp Electronics Corporation introduced its first sub-$1,000 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) projector, the Notevision B10S. Sharp's Notevision B10S offers variable horizontal/vertical/diagonal lens shift, a short-throw zoom lens, theft-deterrent capabilities and extended lamp life. European Imaging and Sound Association ''EISA'' Honors Home Theater Product from InFocus InFocus Corporation announced that its ScreenPlay 5700 has been chosen as the 2003-2004 European Projector of the Year by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), the largest editorial multimedia organization in Europe. Reductions Up to 22 Percent on Enterprise-Class Products Dell today announced price reductions on enterprise, small-medium business and consumer products by as much as 22 percent. Lord Of The Rings Big Winner at 6th Annual DVD Entertainment Awards The DVD Awards is held annually in conjunction with the DVD Conference and Showcase and is produced by the International Recording Media Association (IRMA) and United Media Entertainment (UEM). The purpose is to honor the technical and artistic achievements involved specifically in the creation of DVDs from menu design to the use of special features, with awards in 15 categories. Sub-$1,000 kits coming in September Canon has introduced a new digital version of its Rebel SLR camera. The new EOS Digital Rebel is a 6.3-megapixel autofocus SLR camera. It's expected to be available in September in two configurations, with and without an EF zoom lens. Both versions will sell for less than $1,000. The company has also announced its new Powershot A80, a 4.0-megapixel digital camera. Digital camera offers 4.0-megapixel resolution Kodak has announced a new model in its EasyShare line of digital cameras. The new DX6490 is a 4.0-megapixel camera designed for "advanced amateur" photographers and priced around $500. It's expected to be available in October. ![]() Canon's rugged new four-megapixel PowerShot A80 Digital Camera combines brilliant image quality, crisp Canon optics, and advanced features including a 3X optical zoom and a Vari-Angle LCD Monitor in an affordable and easy-to-use package. ![]() 2 GHz dual-processor model due out by month's end Apple has now started shipping the first two models in its Power Macintosh G5 line of workstations. The new models offer a revamped system architecture, incorporating several hardware enhancements (including PCI-X, AGP 8x and vastly expanded bandwidth) and are available in 1.6 GHz and 1.8 GHz configurations. The dual-processor 2 GHz model is still on track for release by the end of the month, according to Apple. New release gets workflow and feature enhancements Apple today released DVD Studio Pro 2.0, an update to the DVD authoring suite offering new functionality, integration features and workflow enhancements, along with a new price point of $499. As we previously reported, Apple has also changed the upgrade requirements for version 2.0 so that all previous releases can be upgraded for $199. Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced a direct financial commitment of more than US$3.4 million in cash grants, educational scholarships, matching gift funds and product donations to support public benefit organizations and schools around the world in 2003. |
