![]() Red-eye reduction plugin for Adobe Photoshop Believe it or not, this is our first review of a piece of software from Andromeda Software. Andromeda has been in the Photoshop plugin business for quite a while, producing a wide range of effects filters and utility plugins for both Macintosh and Windows. Not coincidentally, the piece of software at hand--RedEyePro for Adobe Photoshop--is their first release for Mac OS X. ![]() Transitional times for the corporate AV specialist Desirable careers come and go. One day, everyone wants your advice and services; the next day, the industry has moved on to bigger and better things. History is littered with outdated professions. When was the last time you bought horseshoes from a village blacksmith or a new bowler from a neighborhood hatter? The position of the corporate AV specialist may not be in danger of disappearing, but it is undergoing dramatic changes. Corporations are rewriting the job descriptions because of advances in technology and the downdrafts of a sagging economy. I spoke with several longtime AV integrators about the evolving role of the AV specialist. Their message was loud and clear: AV specialists will have to adjust to the times, or they may find themselves looking for other jobs.
![]() It’s January. The weather’s bleak and—surprise, surprise—so is the economy. Though we may have had periodic glimpses of recovery, the numbers are just as grim as they were last year at this time. Is your media department, or job, an endangered species? Consider the frightening news from the audio/visual side of our industry. When contributing editor David English was interviewing sources for his piece on the changing role of AV specialists, he was surprised to learn about “controlled layoffs,” a widespread practice that marginalizes long-time employees when they are summarily fired and then rehired by an outside staffing agency. ![]() The Adobe Web Workgroup Server (included with Adobe GoLive 6.0) automatically stores a file’s history of changes, and it prevents two or more users from working on a file at the same time. You can lock and edit files on the Web Workgroup Server using Adobe Photoshop 7.0, Adobe Illustrator 10, Adobe InDesign 2.0, Adobe LiveMotion 2.0, or even Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. Talks about his work on Disney's "Treasure Planet" video game and more When Disney announced their video game adaptation of the film “Treasure Planet,” they sought to find someone with a vast background in creating music for various types of media and production levels which led them to composer Billy Martin. I asked Billy about his background, work on the video game, tools of the trade and the one thing he's looking to accomplish in his career. Here is what he had to say. Tired of Hand-Me-Downs?
