![]() Teaching the art of compositing and editing Corporate-communications professionals realize that quality control and consistency are paramount in the age of digital content creation. At the same time, manufacturers of digital capture, editing and delivery hardware and software are constantly upgrading their tools. Corporate multimedia applications have grown to include streaming video, Flash technology and interactive CD-ROM and DVD projects. How do producers keep themselves and their teams up to speed on the latest technological advances and maintain a competitive edge? By heading back into the classroom. ![]() Personal helicopters, wristwatch editing, stealth clothing? Naah. As is the custom with lots of technology columnists, it's getting to be that time of year when we dust off the old crystal ball and offer our prognostications for the coming new year. What will happen in the world of digital video editing? I see big things on the horizon, with the economy recovering, television commercial production on an upswing and technology getting faster, cheaper and easier-to-use. It's going to be a good year, indeed! Here are my predictions for 2003.
![]() There is a lot of technology available on the market to enhance your videos as well as ease your video editing chores. Some of these tools can run hundreds on up to thousands of dollars while others can be had for less than $100. ![]() A Yahoo! executive on a frenetic book tour discovers how a small projector can create a big impact Few things test the stamina of an author better than a hectic book tour. Love Is the Killer App: How to Win Business and Influence Friends focuses on how to instill love into our business lives—not literally, of course, but by “intelligently and sensibly sharing your intangibles with your biz partners.” Sanders defines intangibles as knowledge, network and compassion, and he uses the term “lovecats” to describe those who share knowledge in order to drive business. To convey these ideas, Sanders had to create an engaging multimedia environment. ![]() The contest between RealVideo and Windows Media 9 Since the beta version of Windows Media 9 was released in September, the consumer-aimed deals and services that exclusively use WM9 technology have been impressive—downloadable surround audio clips from Peter Gabriel’s latest album, for example. But where does WM9 fit in with the business media producer? Initially it might seem like WM9 is strictly consumer technology. And for those companies that have standardized on RealVideo players and servers, switching to WM9 is not a small undertaking. Once you get past the consumer news, however, it’s clear that WM9 is a major overhaul of Microsoft’s digital media technology, with new features that offer impressive streaming capabilities.
