VP Alain Legault: The Power Behind "The Power of X"
Matrox is now shipping its newest real time DV product, the RT.X100. DMN's Charlie White spoke with one of the driving forces behind development of the RT.X100, Alain Legault, VP of Product Development of Matrox Video Products Group. Using a new graphics architecture the company calls "the power of X," the $1099 hardware and software package combines hardware-assisted real time effects with additional effects processed by the computer's host processor, together resulting in better real time performance. Legault had lots to say not only about this latest release, but outlined the implications of its improved technology for Matrox's higher-end products as well.

With stock slipping and inventories climbing, company resorts to strong-arm tactics, lame ads
Apple is playing games with the press again. Stung by disappointed fans after past Macworld letdowns, and betrayed by enthusiast sites repeating the latest Mac scuttlebutt, the Cupertino Cops are looking for someone to place in the pillory as an example to all the other wayward media critics. Don't get me wrong: We like Macs here at the Midwest Test Facility. But I'm just annoyed at secrecy-obsessed CEO Steve Jobs' legendary "reality distortion field," where the truth is often obscured by hyperbolic evangelism.
The first important element of recording for me is the planning process prior to the actual recording session. The better this is done, the smoother the recording sessions are going to go.
Color scheme application and plugin suite
Since its debut back in March 2001, Color Theory has become a critical tool in my graphics work. For those who don't know, Color Theory is a stand-alone application and plugin set for generating harmonious color schemes for graphics and video and working with color in general.
