![]() As usual, Gary’s InfoComm show review is too long to put in one column, so we’ve divided it into two parts. In part one of his review, Gary takes a look at the show in general, the market, and specifically the projector manufacturers’ new wares. ![]() A few ways to pep up your display I love digital signage. If I weren’t a writer, I’d probably go into that business. Seeing movie trailers along the walls of the theater instead of printed posters is a great way to show me what movie I might want to see next week. ![]() Joins Barco and Christie as active licensees NEC Viewtechnology this week became the third active DLP Cinema OEM, licensed to use a special version of Texas Instruments’ DLP technology engineered expressly for cinema. Barco and Christie have been active for a couple of years. Christie says it became the first DLP Cinema OEM in March, 2000 and Barco says it sold the first DLP Cinema projector to an exhibitor in May, 2001. ![]() Avid Xpress DV 3 If you thought buying an Avid meant mortgaging your business, think again. With the arrival of Xpress DV 3 ($1,699), Avid proves that it takes the DV market seriously by offering a solid editing package that’s affordable. This should be a real boon for small editing shops (or lone multimedia producers) to have an Avid—even if it’s software only. ![]() PhotoImpact 7 from Ulead Systems is a $99 ($89 download version) image editing application that packs a lot of power and features in a very capable application. PhotoImpact 7 features a host of tools that help you to not only edit and enhance digital images, but helps you to visually make those changes as well with its host of visual tools that enable you to preview changes before you actually apply them to your images.
