Hotel AV: LCD room service? Not yet
by Gary Kayye, CTS
An interesting trend is coming about in the hotel AV market -- a segment currently dominated by the audiovisual rental business. More and more hotels are either investing in upgrading their conference centers with amenities like in-room coffee break bars, bathrooms, and even installing AV permanently in the room, or they are renovating their standard meeting rooms and including integrated DSL access, high-performance audio systems that include wireless microphones, and projectors mounted in the ceiling.

Four Steps for Improving Customer Service
Simple, yet oft-forgotten actions you need to take to keep your customers coming back
by Denise Harrison
As editor of KNews, I receive a number of letters from people describing their AV horror stories. I also hear success stories. And the horror and success stories often share the exact same factors. The ones that are successful have been responsive, managed expectations and delivered more than was promised. The dissatisfied customers complain of not being able to get in touch with the company, not knowing what they were getting into before the job started, and feeling they received less than they paid for at the end.

Hang and Bang
Is this a market segment or just a slang thang?
By Max Kopsho, MCP
As I travel the Americas conducting training session after training session, I hear one phrase that makes me cringe when I hear it. The phrase: "Hang and Bang." Integrators, distributors, customers, sales people, and consultants have used this phrase alike. I don’t want to point any fingers and say where this phrase came from, but I’ve heard his initials are Gary Kayye (oops) I mean G.K. (Of all the times I could pick from to lose the backspace key, I pick now)

Random Access: Show Report
Business-media producers had the most to see at the Streaming Media West show, held in June in Long Beach, California. Companies that develop streaming hardware, software and services seem to have been heading in our direction for some time; however, many companies I spoke with at the show said they are aiming squarely at the enterprise.
